NOTE: PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED>>>SEE THE LINK AT THE END OF THIS OVERVIEW
Our classes are offered at the United Sportsmen, Inc. range. The address of the facility is 4700 Evora Road , Concord CA. It is located off of Willow Pass Road at Highway 4. We meet in the United Sportsmen Clubhouse. Drive to the end of the road and go up the steps into the clubhouse building.
The online option for completing the Hunter Education requirement allows you to take all but four hours of the course online. Our four hour sessions to complete the online class begin promptly at 6:00 pm on class nights.
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you will not be admitted to the class. Weeknight freeway traffic to USI can be very heavy, so please allow extra travel time to the facility.
The cost of the course is $10 cash per student which we pass on to the range to cover facility costs. We cannot accept checks or credit cards.
Pre-registration for our online class is REQUIRED . To register for the online class, click on the "registration form" tab below to reach the registration page.
Online courses are not designed to save you time but, rather, to allow students greater time-management flexibility in completing the total requirement. Successful past students tell us the online work will likely take plus-or-minus around 7 hours. The various approved courses are linked on the Department of Fish & Widlife Registration page (link below).
On all approved online courses, students complete the online study and take the online exam at their own pace. Once the online exam has been completed and you have scored at least an 80%, you will be given the opportunity to print a pre-certification voucher. You must be sure to print the proof of complettion voucher and bring it to class.
You must then complete a four hour review course in-person with a Hunter Education Instructor which includes a final examination. The instructor will review significant points including firearms handling and then will administer the final exam. You must also earn a minumum score of 80% on the final exam to pass the course.
The fail rate for students age 13 and below is much higher than in the traditional course.
Can your child take this course? YES. Do we recommend this course for children below age 14? NO.
The final exam for this course is similar to, but considerably more difficult than, the traditional exam. It is 100 questions, with multiple choice and fill in the blank questions (no true/false). The student must obtain a minimum score of 80%, plus demonstrate the ability to pay attention and follow safe firearms handling principles to succesfully complete the program. The certificate will be issued at the time of successful completion. Students may then go online to www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/ols/ or visit any facility selling Hunting Licenses and purchase their license.
IMPORTANT: Please bring your printed pre-certification voucher and your signed student consent form and bring these with you to class. If you are unable to print these required forms, please email them to us in advance of class to hunteredusi@gmail.com. Connectivity is spotty at the facility and we MUST have these forms before we can issue you a Hunter Education Certificate.
